OutOfCopyright.eu makes Public Domain Calculators available for the entire European Union
"Works that have fallen into the public domain after their term of copyright protection has elapsed can be reely used by everybody. In theory that means that these works can be reused by anyone for any purpose which includes commercial exploitation.
...
In practice however determining if a work has passed into the public domain can prove very difficult. This is especially true when attempting to determine the public domain status of content in multiple jurisdictions. As part of the EuropeanaConnect project Knowledgeland and the Institute for information Law at the University of Amsterdam have developed public domain calculators to answer the question whether a certain work or other subject matter vested with copyright or neighbouring rights (related rights) has fallen into the public domain. These public domain Calculators have been developed for 30 countries (the European Union plus Switzerland, Iceland & Norway) and are available at www.outofcopyright.eu
Users can use the calculators (and the underlying research published at outofcopyright.eu) to determine the copyright status of works in all these countries. This is the first time that this question has been structurally researched across all European jurisdictions.
...
We encourage everyone interested in the public domain to try the calculators, comment on them and re-use the published research. All research and other material on Outofcopyright is available under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license and the software powering the calculators can be reused under the terms of the EUPL license
The Public Domain Project is very happy about this anouncement and would like to thank everyone who was involved creating it!

11. January
We've got the first time user statistics from Wikimedia Commons for the month of october 2015.
We are very happy that all our audio files we provide on Wikimedia Commons were downloaded 40 000 times in that month!
We hoped that people are interested in the results of our work but to have the numbers on the table that quite a lot of people are interested in it is a great compliment for us. This usage statistic is therefore a great boost in motivation to continue our work.

Again we attended the Wikimania conference, this year in a mountain villige in norh Italy.
In a very cosy and relaxed atmosphere discussions about many topics were held and we could make new interesting contacts in the Wikimedia movement. It could be clearly seen from the conference program and the attendees in different events that the work with GLAMs gets more important. For different reasons and on eye level. We from the public domain project are also happy about that the Wikimedia Foundation installed a GLAM Coordinator to support the work in this areas.
The program can be found here. All presentations have links to the video recordings:

16. August
The Public Domain Project was the first time the subject of a research paper.
At the Bern University of Applied Sciences a student was working on the topic of digital long time preservation of audio works in general and developing a concept how this concepts could be applied to the Public Domain Project.
As a by product an audit was undertaken to determine the current status of the Public Domain Project and its long time preservation strategies.

Our office for the digitization work in Switzerland has been moved. It is now located at the Sonnegstrasse 27 in Zürich. Just the beautiful view over Zürich from the lake over the main station to Schlieren is worth a visit in our office.
